The Grape Research Coordination Network (GRCN) is supported by the National Science Foundation and will hold annual conferences from 2009 until 2013.

The mission of the GRCN is to foster research collaborations between grape research groups within the USA and between US grape research groups and international grape research groups.

The 1st Annual Grape Research Conference was held at Granlibakken at Lake Tahoe, CA, USA from the evening of May 15th, 2009 until mid-day May 17th, 2009. We would like to thank John Gripp and Roche-NimbleGen, who supported our conference by providing beverages and the graduate student awards.

Meeting Notes: The meeting was a huge success. Many people attending liked the informal style of the meeting as it allowed for very good interactions between the participants. The conference surroundings were very beautiful and we were fortunate to have beautiful weather as well. Anna Hjelmeland won the ice breaker/mixer prize for getting the most information on the participants, winning two very beautiful Enkidu wines. She was very generous to share them to all at the poster session. Richard Tillett and Matt Wheatley won the best student poster prize ($250) for their poster "Overexpression of a CBF transcription factor in Grapevine Improves Cold Tolerance". At the end of the talks, we had a round table discussion to determine the top functional genomics priorities needed by the grape research community.
